1 (Lawsonia inermis) f. Planta arbustiva de la familia de las litráceas, originaria de Arabia, de cuyas hojas se obtiene un polvo rojizo que se utiliza como tinte, especialmente para el pelo.

La henna (m. o f., con h aspirada) es un tinte natural de pelo que además se emplea en una técnica de coloración de la piel llamada mehndi. Se hace con la hoja seca y el pecíolo de Lawsonia alba Lam. (Lawsonia inermis L.). Este tinte se emplea en India, Pakistán, Irán y África del norte. Los patrones del mehndi son bastante complejos y en algunas culturas se emplean como ornamento nupcial. En Occidente se puso de moda en los 90.

Arbusto o arbolillo tropical (Lawsonia inermis) de la familia de las Litráceas (ver salicaria), originario del norte de África, Asia y Australia, y el tinte marrón rojizo que se obtiene de sus hojas.

La planta da hojas pequeñas, opuestas, y florecillas fragantes de color blanco o rojo. Además de cultivarse por su tinte, se utiliza como planta ornamental.
